From the west on I-40
(from Chapel Hill, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Hickory, Asheville, etc.)
Take Exit 289 - Wade Ave. Exit will put you on a four-lane road going into Raleigh. Stay on this road and follow signs for Wade Ave. Stay on Wade Ave. as it goes through west Raleigh. As Wade Ave. ends, it merges into Capital Blvd. Stay in right lane and take this merge, following signs to Raleigh Civic Center. After you get on Capital Blvd., the Albert Coates Local Government Center will be about one mile away. At the first traffic light (where Lane St. crosses), the road switches from Capital Blvd. To Dawson St. and the Albert Coates Local Government Center is the first building on the right after this traffic light.
You may park in any available parking space in the lot that surrounds the building. There may also be space available in the lot under the Reynolds Building. Beginning in late January, parking will be available in the Quorum Center across Jones St. from the Reynolds. It is accessed from N. Harrington Street.
The Reynolds Building is in the same block as the Local Government Center, but faces Jones St. (second building from corner), and can be accessed from the same parking lot as the Coates Building.
From the west on US 70
As you enter Raleigh from the west on US 70, the road becomes Glenwood Ave. Take Glenwood Ave. to Hillsborough St. (approximately 4 miles). Turn left on Hillsborough St. Go four blocks. Turn left on McDowell St. (which is one-way). Go three blocks and turn left on Lane Street (also one-way).
Go one block on Lane Street and at the traffic light at Lane and Dawson Streets, turn left. The Albert Coates Local Government Center is at the corner of Lane and Dawson Streets..
From the east on I-40 (Wilmington, Benson, etc.)
Stay on the southern leg of the Beltline, US 440 (Follow signs for US 1 - South). Exit at South Saunders St. (Exit 298) going into downtown. Follow South Saunders into downtown, staying in right lanes, as this street flows into McDowell St. as you enter downtown. Stay on McDowell St. Turn left on Lane St, (three blocks beyond Hillsborough St).
Go one block on Lane St. and at the traffic light at Lane and Dawson Sts., turn left. The Albert Coates Local Government Center is at the corner of Lane and Dawson Sts.
From the east on US 64 (Williamston, Tarboro, Rocky Mount)
Stay on US 64 East as you come into Raleigh. US 64 East becomes New Bern Ave. as you travel into Raleigh. In the downtown area, it becomes a one-way street and the street is now Edenton St. Stay on Edenton St. and turn right on McDowell St. two blocks past the Capitol Building. Go two blocks and turn left on Lane St.
Go one block on Lane Street and at the traffic light at Lane and Dawson Streets, turn left. The Albert Coates Local Government Center is at the corner of Lane and Dawson Streets.
From the south on US 70/401
Stay on US 70/401 as the road goes into Raleigh and it becomes Wilmington St. Two blocks past the Capitol Building, turn left on Lane St.
Go one block on Lane St. and at the traffic light at Lane and Dawson Sts., turn left. The Albert Coates Local Government Center is at the corner of Lane and Dawson Streets.
From north on US 1 North
Stay on US 1 North as it enters Raleigh. The road is also Capital Blvd. inside Raleigh. Stay on Capital Blvd. all the way into the downtown area. As you enter the downtown area, the road becomes a one-way street (Dawson St.). At the first traffic light in the downtown area (Lane St.), the Albert Coates Local Government Center is on the right at the corner of Lane and Dawson streets.
Parking
You may park in any available space around the Coates Building or in the parking garage under the Reynolds Building. Additional parking will be available in the Quorum Center, across Jones St. from the Reynolds Building beginning in late January. Access is from Harrington St.

Directions from Interstate 40 West:
From I-40, take the Wade Avenue Exit. At end of Wade, fork right onto Capital Boulevard (South). Go about 1/2 mile, under the railroad trestle, and turn right at the stoplight for the Lane Street intersection. Proceed past the Albert Coates Local Government Center on the left and to the stop sign on N. Harrington St. Take a left on Harrington and proceed to the Jones St. stop sign. Continue through the stop sign on Harrington. The entrance to the building's parking deck will be on your left.
Directions from Interstate 40 East:
From I-40, take the South Saunders Exit. Keep to the right and merge onto McDowell Street. Go through town and take a left onto Lane Street (a Quiznos Sub shop will be located across the intersection). Go through the stoplight at the Dawson Street intersection. Proceed past the Albert Coates Local Government Center on the left and to the stop sign on N. Harrington St. Take a left on Harrington and proceed to the Jones St. stop sign. Continue through the stop sign on Harrington. The entrance to the building's parking deck will be on your left.
